Weddings in Fiji |
Bulla!
Destination Weddings are becoming increasingly popular and certain destinations are really beginning to stand out. One such location undoubtedly is Fiji.
Located in a remote corner of the South Pacific, Fiji is one of those places that brides from around the world dream of, not only for the perfect wedding, but the honeymoon of a lifetime. Due to Fiji's proximity to Australia and New Zealand, Fiji is probably the number one wedding destination for it's closest neighbours, but more and more couples are also heading to Fiji from the Americas and even Europe.
Fiji has always had a romantic attraction for couples and a kind of mystery about it, probably due to distant location from the Western World. When you think of a Pacific Paradise, Fiji is probably the first name that springs to mind.
And don't they know it!
The Fijian government have been very clever indeed, not only in promoting general leisure travel to Fiji, but it has to be said, they have pretty much monopolised the Destination Wedding industry in the Southern Hemisphere, promoting these beautiful Islands and resorts as the place to tie the knot.
OK, so it's not just all about good marketing, Fiji has one or two more little things going for it. Climate is one of them of course, but stunning beaches and tropical wedding locations also make Fiji hard to ignore.
Fiji is certainly not wealthy country and it does have it's political ups and downs, however unlike some Asian destinations, the government knows what side it's bread is buttered and regardless of who is running the show, their tourism industry is always isolated from whatever quarrels they are having, making Fiji a very safe place for tourists and of course wedding parties to travel too.
The Fijians are a very welcoming bunch too and ever so laid back. Some might say too laid back at times and many westerns may struggle with 'Fiji Time', especially when waiting for a beverage.
Apart from 'Fiji Time' though, there is little else to mark Fiji down as a top destination to get married and their are countless resorts and hotels to accommodate any price or level of service you require.

Serviced by a number of airlines including Fiji Airways / Air Pacific, Qantas, Pacific Blue and Air New Zealand to name a few, Fiji's international airport in Nadi is under 4 hours flight from both Australian and New Zealand Mainlands with Fiji Airways now flying to Los Angeles in the USA too.
If you are seriously looking at Fiji, you might also want to consider it's closest and less well known neighbour, Vanuatu. Vanuatu and Port Vila have it all and much much more, however are not promoted anywhere near as vigorously as Fiji.
Food for thought!
A great resource to find Destination Wedding Vendors for Fiji and Vanuatu is Wedsaway with probably the most comprehensive list of wedding providers in Fiji, on the internet.
The biggest Destination Wedding Planner in the Southern Hemisphere 'Wedding Destinations' are based in Australia and drive a large slice of the Wedding Business to Fiji. If you want to deal with a western wedding planner, these guys might be worth touching base with.
